PORT WINE

Also called Port Wine Stains, it is a condition wherein a vascular stain appears due to abnormal development of blood vessels in the skin. This mutation is linked with veins and capillaries’ malformation, which occurs early in pregnancy. No genetics is responsible for it, as it does not pass on from one generation to another.

About three in every 1000 infants are born with this problem. The most astounding fact is that girls are twice prone to have it than those of boys.

When do you need the treatment?

Despite the fact that the port wine stains are not harmful, they may lead to glaucoma. It is an eye condition, exerting high pressure in the eye. This pressure may lead to vision loss if the condition remains untreated.

Therefore, you should always stay aware of the fact if you see any port wine stain near eyes of your child. Its symptoms are as below:

  • Larger pupil than the other in one eye
  • One eye appears more pronounced
  • One eyelid opens wider than the other one

We have some effective and nonsurgical laser treatments for port wines to overcome this condition.

Port Wines Look Like Red or Purple Marks

They look a flat, red or purple mark on the surface. Over time, you see them turning thicker, darker and raised bumps or ridges.

You can see them on either side of the body and sometimes, on both sides. The professional, experienced and highly qualified doctor at the Cosmetic Clinic Coolangatta in Australia is known for being able to identify it in no time.

How Do We Remove Them?

Generally, you should not be worried about these marks, as they don’t need any special treatment. However, keeping patients away from the sun during, before and after the laser treatment is always recommended. In addition, you must apply the prescribed sunscreen to cover the exposed skin.

Currently, there are two treatments trending for overcoming this malformation of veins and capillaries-Laser Treatment & Cosmetic Camouflage.

We, at Cosmetic Clinic Coolangatta, use a pulsed dye laser for concentrating its light beam to damage the abnormal blood vessels upon diagnosing several factors. It shows great results, causing these vessels to close and break them up over weeks. You see them shrinking, fading or possibly going away gradually.

Keep into account that the laser treatments may not completely remove them. But, you would see them getting lightened in colour or camouflaging with the surrounding area. Simply say, our treatment can make them less visible or minimally noticeable.
